In the above construction, groundwater flows and penetrates the soil and bedrock underground, and there are gaps and cavities. Under the pressure of water, water will flow from high-pressure areas to low-pressure areas. In the process of flow, the first thing is that the fine soil particles flow away with the water. If the water pressure becomes larger and is enough to drive coarser particles, the seepage will become larger, taking away more and coarser gravel, and accidents may occur. Of course, this is only a simple and easy-to-understand way of understanding. The actual process is much more complicated.
In terms of geology, the velocity and direction of groundwater flow are important geological parameters. Through these parameters, we can have a general understanding of the geological conditions of the monitoring site and have a general estimate of the development trend of the situation we want to understand. Generally, shallow layers are okay, and we can use traditional methods to dig wells. By taking out the core and pumping water, we can have a rough estimate of the groundwater situation. If we want to understand it more carefully, we have to dig multiple detection wells, which is expensive and time-consuming, and the measurement results are not very accurate. As the impact and losses caused by accidents caused by groundwater flow are increasing, the prediction and control of potential accidents are becoming more and more urgent, and higher and newer requirements are put forward for groundwater measurement. But how can we know the groundwater situation and measure these parameters when we are tens or hundreds of meters underground?
